Though FAA data gives an activation date of June 2015, this helipad has been extant since at least 2003. A previous helipad was located to the northeast, and was noted in aerial imagery from 1994 and 1997.

The first Learjet 28, used by Neil Armstrong to set 5 FAI records in 1979. Donated to the Armstrong Museum in August 2020, flown into the airport that bears his name, AXV. Moved to the museum grounds proper in June of 2022. Built in 1979, originally N9RS (as she was when Neil flew her), to N9KH, N128MA, N3AS, becoming N128LR in 2004 with Shamrock Foods, keeping that reg with several owners until her donation.

FAA data for this heliport gives an activation date of March 1993. A helipad located slightly to the west of this one is visible in aerial images from 1995 and 2001; this pad is first noted in aerial images from 2006.

I have not been able to locate information on when this heliport was constructed; the earliest aerial imagery showing it dates to 1995.

Earliest dated reference to a heliport in this location is a 1973 directory, while the earliest visual confirmation is a 1979 ODOT aerial photo. The FAA data for this location gives an activation date of February 1987, however. Contrary to the FAA data, there was no lighted wind indicator I could see, and all the ground-level lighting was missing any kind of bulbs. I'm also not sure that the associated facility is actually a functioning hospital any longer. I would therefore advise against trying to land here.

From here to the moon. The Aeronca Champ in which Neil Armstrong learned to fly, and first soloed at the age of 16, at the Port Koneta Airport north of town. Displayed just a few steps from the Gemini VIII capsule he would go on to fly later on.

As displayed in the terminal building at KCMH. Built in Columbus in 1940; despite the what the c/n may suggest, this was not the first Cadet to fly. That was NX20946, c/n 101. The discrepancy requires further research, but my understanding at the moment is that c/n 100 was a development aircraft of some sort. This is reinforced by the fact that the reg "NX20989" is still faintly visible on the underwing and tail fabric. Has since been removed from this location, first to the Historical Aircraft Squadron Museum at LHQ, and then in 2019 to storage with the Ohio History Connection in Columbus.

Originally built for the USAAF as TC-47B-35-DK s/n 44-76884, transferred to the US Navy as R4D-7 BuNo 99838. To the civil registry at an unknown date, becoming N7073C, N30, N87814, N2004J, N212GB, and finally N2312G. From October 1993 to July 2008, displayed at the 101st Foxhole Club restaurant at KBNA. Moved to OPN in Thomaston, GA in July 2008, then to 3FK in Franklin, IN, before ending up here at Motts circa 2014. Has since been undergoing restoration for static display.

Seen here in storage during the 2018 Dayton Air Show. Originally donated to Beavercreek City Schools in 2014 for use in STEM education programs, it was later determined that the cost of moving the aircraft to the campus of Wright State University for such use was more than could be borne. In 2018 the aircraft was therefore further donated to Sinclair Community College, for use in their Aviation Maintenance Technology program located at KDAY. Built in 1974, formerly C-GAAA with Air Canada until sale to FedEx in 1986.

Bathed in the strange midday darkness of a total solar eclipse, this Skylancer was once flown by Neil Armstrong himself. I'm sure he would have appreciated this unforgettable moment just as much as those of us who witnessed it did. Restored in 2018-2019 to markings worn when Neil flew her, ex USN BuNo 142350.
