While with VA-196 the plane was deployed on the USS Independence for combat in Operation Desert Storm. It was finally acquired by the Naval Aviation Museum in May 1994.

During 1969 the plane was sent to join VMA(AW)-533 of MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, while it was deployed to Chu Lai Air Base in Vietnam. From 1970 to May 1971: VMA(AW)-225 at Da Nang. 5/71: VMA(AW)-225 rotated back to MCAS El Toro, CA. 6/72: VMA(AW)-242 El Toro. Ca.1976: Converted to A-6E. By 1977: VA-35, NAS Oceana, VA. By 1987: VA-128, NAS Whidbey Island, WA. 1995: VA-115 at NAS Yokosuka, Japan. 22 Jul 1996: Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ, for storage. 12/00: SOC and scrapped.
