Operations Libyan dawn brought deployments to the Mediterranean area. The one at Souda (Crete, Greece) was the most interesting one. The multi-state NATO-led coalition began a military intervention - named Operation Unified Protector - in and over Libya. The Qatari Emeri Air Force deployed five Mirage 5EDAs and one 5DDA. The QEAF only flew Combat Air Patrols (air defence) during the operation, to prevent Libyan military aircraft to take off. They always flew in formation with French Mirage 2000s as Qatar was not used to NATO operations.

Operation Unified Protector, the fight against the Libyan regime of Kadhafi, yield at Souda (Crete) a nice mix of French Mirage 2000s, including 2000-5Fs, 2000D and 2000NK2 as well as Qatarese 2000EDA/DDAs. Here serial 63, a 2000-5F of "Cigogne de Guynemer" (Guynemer Stork) is taking off from Souda. Soon the pilot is manoeuvring nar and over Libya to give top cover for other NATO assets.

Strikingly, four black Bell 412s were seen on the platform of Ratmalana, all four carried the same serial, "SUH-522". There are six of them, and serials involved are reportedly SUH-523 (c/n 33097), SUH-525 (33095), SUH-527 (36225), SUH-528 (36249), SUH-529 (36557) and SUH-530 (36558). They are assigned to the 4 (VIP/VVIP) Helicopter Squadron "Anywhere, Anytime, Safely" that also operates Bell 212 and Mi-171E types. The 412s showed no exact IDs to the 4Aviation travellers. Here one of the 522s leave the Ratmalana platform for a mission to pick up members of the presidential family.

A V-5 that just returned from a United National deployment in Central African Republic. Its UN markings and registration (UNO-566P) are still visible. Its construction number is not clear, 144M07?. likewise its former identity, this could be SMH-4308. Pictured during a very fine 4Aviation tour that lead to most bases of the SLAF.
