This is the sole survivor of the P-11c, which for a time was the world's most advanced fighter of its type and Poland's premier frontline combat aircraft at the onset of WWII. It wears now a brown scheme but was green when I photographed it six years ago.

Although the Polish military has operated the Mi-8 since 1968, this is, undoubtedly, the most famous single helicopter in Poland! This Hip was built in 1973 and outfitted for ten passengers. It was operated by the 36th Special Air Transport Regiment in Warsaw and was used to fly Pope John Paul II during his pilgrimages to Poland in 1983 and 1997, and so accounts for its celebrity within the country. The frame was donated to the museum in December 2009.

This photo would normally not be possible but MiG-19PM 905 has been removed from the end of the line. The museum recently must have spent a lot of time and resources on refurbishing the main hangar, perhaps the absence of the Farmer- E signifies that attention is being turned to sprucing up the outside exhibits as, it must be said, some are starting to look a bit bedraggled. Lim-6M 606 was built as a 5P and TOC by the Polish AF in November 1960. It was converted to a 6M sometime after 1972 and donated to the museum in October 1990.

The DFW C.V was also licence built by Aviatik, Halberstadt and LVG so that by the end of WWI the type was the most numerous German multirole aircraft in service. This is the only surviving example of the C.Vc training variant. It once belonged to Herman Göring's private collection, the Deutsche Luftfahrtsammlung (German Collections of Aircraft), exhibited near the pre-WWII Berlin railway station. After several pieces were lost during a bombing attack in 1943, the remaining planes were hurridly and crudely dismantled and transported east. After the war they became part of this great museum.
