Leased to Air Berlin in 3.82 when less than a year old, this 737 wasn't returned to Hapag Lloyd until 4.86. Later registrations were YU-AOF with Aviogenex, N231TA with TACA and most recently C6-BFM with Bahamasair from 7.04

Taxiing up to the threshold of 33R is KLM's 'Sir Frank Whittle', later re-registered PH-BUU. Leased by Phuket Airlines as HS-VAC in 2004 after storage, sub-leased twice by Saudi Arabian and parked at Bangkok's old airport from 2.09; an engine detached during take-off from Cairo in July 2010 and the aircraft returned, remaining stored there.

Delivered 3.76 and stored at Amman along with YI-AGK, AGQ & AGS since the first Gulf War in 1991, becoming fairly derelict

Another Caravelle with a well-known European flag carrier start to its service life, this was Finnair's OH-LSA 'Helsinki' from 7.64. Bought by EAS 3.81 and leased to ACI then Air Toulouse Int from 6.91 to 3.97 when wfu at TLS; apparently offered for sale for $1.5m in 2001 but completely scrapped on 11.03.04

A splendid array of Caravelles could be seen at Athens in the Eighties - I was fortunate enough to catch 10 different examples on camera over my two visits. This one was originally Sabena's OO-SRE delivered in 3.61 and sold to Catair in 5.76, passing on to EAS (still in SN colours) then Corse Air just over a year prior to this shot. Wfu at Chateauroux 2.87 and preserved by the airport but later scrapped

Looking great against blue Greek skies, this 1967-build 707 was bought from American in 12.82 (ex N7596A). Placed into storage at Beirut in 1998 and remains there in fair condition - said to be for preservation by MEA

Seen literally days before the infamous hijacking, this is the very aircraft which was seized by Hezbollah terrorists here at Athens for 17 days from 14.6.85 while operating TW847 to Rome. Wfu on 30.9.00 after performing TWA's last 727 revenue flight and ferried to Victorville with 63803 hours/42502 landings; b/u 5.02

Delivered to Air Algerie in 9.80, this 727 was noted engineless at Algiers in early 2008

One of three 727s bought by Ethiopian and delivered in 10.79, this example was wfu at Shannon in 8.92 and stored as N979AL, eventually being converted to a freighter and leased by All Canada Express as C-FACJ in from 1.97. Operated in UPS colours but repainted in All Canada's own livery shortly before becoming C-GUJC in 5.03 and appearing in CargoJet Airways scheme - very smart, but nobody will beat that wonderful original ET paintwork!

Leased in 5.85 from Airbus following four years with Lufthansa as D-AIAE, and registered F-BUAP from 11.85. Stayed with Olympic for a further year before going to Air Inter. Wfu at Opa-locka 7.97 and b/u
