The Kestrel was a step between the straight-winged Hawker P.1127 prototypes and the operational Harrier. This aircraft wears the awkward markings of the Tripartite Evaluation Squadron, which consisted of British, US and West German personnel. In 1965 the projected Mach 2 Harrier was cancelled, and the Harrier ended up as just a straightforward development from the Kestrel.

Nice to catch this superb exhibit in the sunshine outdoors. Built as a CC.1 and one of 39 Twin Pins which served with six RAF squadrons in the transport, supply dropping, photo survey and casualty evacuation roles (and even as a light bomber). Saw widespread active service in Aden from delivery to 78 Sqdn in 1958 till 1966 when she returned to the UK and now housed as part of the National Cold War Exhibition at Cosford
