In late 1977, the Philippine government purchased 35 ex-US Navy F-8Hs, 10 of them for parts only. They were grounded in 1988 and finally withdrawn from service in 1991 after they were badly damaged by the Mount Pinatubo eruption, later being offered for sale as scrap

The P-51 displayed for many years outside at the Philippine AF Museum with the name "Shark of Zambales" was incorrectly serialled '3733'; this is the same aircraft after restoration, and now falsely marked as '4823'. It was originally delivered to the USAAF as 44-74627, then transferred to the Philippine AF as 73373.
