VA-56 A-7A BuNo.153144 and VA-93 A-7A BuNo.152673 demonstrating very low level air to air refueling. I took this slide standing on the flight deck of USS Midway (CV-41). This was part of an air power demonstration for dignitaries that were visiting the ship. The VA-93 A-7 is still wearing bicentennial markings commemorating the 200th anniversary of the U.S., which occurred in July 1976.

Each squadron aboard USS Midway had an aircraft painted in recognition of the 1976 U.S. Bicentennial. Here is the VF-151 design. This a/c has just been relocated to this spot on the flight deck. The tug is still hooked up, the plane captain is in the cockpit, and a flight deck director (yellow shirt) is signaling the plane captain to hold the brakes. Next the chocks will be put in, the a/c secured with no less than 6 tie down chains, and the tug unhooked. If the sea state is causing a large amount of deck movement up to 18 chains may be required.

Korean War picture. Earlier that month, UP-27 was photographed on the ground behind enemy lines in Yangyang County, taking out survivors of the ran-aground Thai corvette Prasae. The helicopter was lost on another rescue mission near Kosong on 3 July 1951. The pilot was killed and another crew member taken prisoner. Photo from: US Navy
