The USAF had one fighter squadron based at Thule between 1953 and 1965 - successively the 318th and 74th FIS, flying the same F-94B Starfires, and from 1958 the 327th and 332nd FIS, flying F-102 Delta Daggers. The Square-T tail marking identifies the unit as the 2nd Bombardment Wing, then based at Hunter AFB, Georgia. The unit was deployed to RAF Mildenhall, UK from May to September, 1951, so the aircraft in the photo are undoubtedly enroute to the UK. In 1951 what was to be Thule AB was still under construction and was in Top Secret status.
