Built as an F.8 in 1952 and was transferred to the Royal Australian Air Force in February 1953 with the serial A77-876. In October 1960, converted to a U.21A variant, an unmanned target drone for use at the Weapons Research Establishment at Woomera, South Australia. Returned to the UK in 1969 and was redesignated as a U.16. She was later converted to a D.16, tasked with chasing drones rather than being one. This Meteor was previously A77-876 with the RAAF before returning to the UK and being allocated to the RAE at Llanbedr. It was used to chase target drones, hence, this extremely high-vis scheme. Now part of the very friendly and welcoming Boscombe Down Aviation Collection - Old Sarum Museum.
