One of many MiG-types preserved with the excellent collection at Monino is this MiG-27, the ground attack version of the MiG-23 fighter. Bort 01 red arrived here in August 1995 and previously wore bort 01 yellow.

The MiG-27 shares the basic airframe of the MiG-23 but is optimised for air-to-ground attack. Dissatisfaction with the MiG-23BN led to the further development of the basic airframe to accommodate; a stronger undercarriage, simpler intakes, a shorter exhaust nozzle and a revised nose with a downward-sloping profile for improved pilot visibility. This example is on display at the Central Museum of the Air Forces at Monino.
