On display in the SEA War Gallery at NMUSAF. This MiG-17F was presented to the museum in 1986 by the Egyptian AF. It is painted to represent a VPAF MiG-17. These fighters were decimated in aerial battles over Vietnam. Outclassed, the MiG-17s were forced to pick their battles, intercepting strike aircraft and forcing them to jettison their bombs short of target. Heavily armed with one 37-mm N-37 and two 23-mm NR-23 cannon, the MiG-17 was effective at low altitude, being able to turn inside the heavier American aircraft. The type was flown by the 921st Sao Do and 923rd Fighter Regiment.

This Fresco was originally an Egyptian AF machine but was gifted to the US as a sign of friendship and is now on display at the National Museum of the USAF in this North Vietnamese scheme.
