On display in the SEA War Gallery at NMUSAF. This MiG-17F was presented to the museum in 1986 by the Egyptian AF. It is painted to represent a VPAF MiG-17. These fighters were decimated in aerial battles over Vietnam. Outclassed, the MiG-17s were forced to pick their battles, intercepting strike aircraft and forcing them to jettison their bombs short of target. Heavily armed with one 37-mm N-37 and two 23-mm NR-23 cannon, the MiG-17 was effective at low altitude, being able to turn inside the heavier American aircraft.
