The indoor exposition of the great Central Museum of the Air Force at Monino has some interesting aircraft on display, like this Ilyushin Il-10M. It was introduced during WW II (in 1944) and can be considered as the successor of the famous Il-2 Shturmovik. The Il-10 participated in the final stages of WW II in Europe and served for another decade with the Soviet air force. In China, the type served until 1972. This example arrived with the museum on 17 June 1959.

The Il-10 attack aircraft saw action in the closing stages of World War II and in Korea. The improved Il-10M did not appear until around 1950. This particular aircraft tested an auxiliary rocket engine in its tail to improve performance, but this was not proceeded with and the Il-10M was used only for training purposes.
