Ordered by BOAC and first flew on 20 August 1954. Demonstrated at the Farnborough air show two weeks later. After the Comet 1 crashes the order for the Comet 2s was cancelled. Used for test work, becoming XN453 with the Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough. Withdrawn in early 1973.
