"Show Me" on static display at Spirit of St. Louis Air Show 2024. This aircraft was delivered on 11 Jun 1945 to the USAAF with s/n 44-31385. Too late to see combat, it was used as a navigator and pilot trainer till struck off charge in 1959 and sold into civilian hands. It is painted to represent a Mitchell of the 345th BG "Air Apaches" in the PTO. The Group consisted of the 498th, 499th, 500th and 501st BS. After a distinguished war record, Mitchells from 345th BG were notable for escorting two G4M1 Betty bombers on 19 Aug 1945 to Ie Shima containing the Japanese surrender delegation.
