In external store here, ex Boscombe Down

Previously used for ground instruction at Boscombe Down from 6 December 1968 until it was moved to the fire section in 1985. Preserved at Gatwick Aviation Museum from 1990 and moved to St Athan on 1 September 2013 as spares for G-KAEW/XL500. Now stored at South Wales Aviation Museum from August 2018.

Shore-based at RAF Luqa from HMS Ark Royal for exercises.

Following the death in Jan 2013 of the museum's owner Peter Vallance, some exhibits went to other museums and collections. This Gannet was one of them, moving on to Horizon Aircraft Services at St. Athan in late Aug 2013.

Her active service life with 849 Squadron B flight on HMS Ark Royal ended in 1978 followed by ground instructional duties at A & AEE.

Used as an instructional airframe at Boscombe Down for several years before being acquired by the Gatwick Aviation Museum. Latterly it moved to Saint Athan to serve as a source of parts in the restoration to flight of XL500.
