The chap walking in front is F/O Bill Dann of 1476 (Rayleigh) Squadron ATC who led the team which retrieved the cockpit section of Lightning F.1 XG325, from P&EE Foulness in June 1972. WH739 went to 19MU at St. Athan where it was S.O.C. 27th July 1976. The cockpit section was saved and was still with 2475 Squadron ATC at Ammanford, Carmarthenshire in 2021.

Built in 1953 and saw service with 101 & 50 Sqns, Upwood Stn Flt, RNZAF, 45, 85 and finally 100 Sqn as seen here at Wattisham's 1972 BoB Day. In 1958 joined the newly formed RNZAF 75 Sqn at RAF Tengah, Singapore, seeing active service in Malaya as part of the Commonwealth Strategic Reserve. SoC 7.76 and scrapped but nose preserved with the ATC at Ammanford in Wales
