The grand building in the background is Cootamundra West railway station which closed in 1983. Cootamundra had two busy stations and was a major rail junction at the height of the railways. It also was for a while the air terminus for planes from the UK, mail and passengers completing the journey to Melbourne and Sydney by train. The switch to flying boats moved the air terminus to Sydney.

In 1968, VH-BJR was the first New South Wales homebuilt aircraft to receive a MSN, N1, through the Ultralight Aircraft Association of Australia. By that time it had been flying five years with the MSN A1. It suffered an accident in 1979 and after a lengthy rebuild, reappeared in 2001 as 19-3524 on the Recreational Aircraft register.
