Delivered to the USAAF as C-54B 44-9008 then transferred to the US Navy as R5D-2Z 90392 in 1944. Redesignated as a VC-54P in 1962. Stored at Davis-Monthan AFB with park code 3C034 in 1967. Sold as N67040 in 1975. To Central Air Service in 1976 and converted to a firebomber. Stored at Marana Regional-Avra Valley from 1994. To Maricopa Aircraft in 2000. Cancelled from the reguster in 2018. Still there in 2022.

Look at the damaged left wingtip. This occurred in January 2002 when sister-ship N67062 was being readied for a ferry flight to the March AFB Museum in Riverside, CA. One of N67062's main gear had sunk into the dirt and full power was applied to extract the aircraft. As the aircraft came out of the hole, the brakes malfunctioned and the No.4 prop sliced through the wingtip of N67040. The prop was changed and the ferry flight proceeded!

Two DC-4's from the group at Avra Valley have been flown out after years of storage....perhaps there is hope for this one too! Note the damaged left wingtip.
