Data for the radial-engined fighter behind the Fiat G.18 propeller. The CR.40 was developed alongside the CR.32, displayed on the right. The pilot had a superior field of view over the low-set upper wing. Despite this, only two CR.40s were built. The Fiat A.59-powered CR.40bis was slower than the original prototype with an imported Bristol Mercury engine. The other aircraft, clockwise from the left: IMAM Ro.37; Savoia-Marchetti SM.81 Pipistrello; S.73, I-ENNA; and Jona J.6 prototype with tilting upper wing, MM313. Photo from: Fondazione Fiera Milano
