This is the single seat version of the T-33 developed for reconnaissance purposes. The Italian Air Force received 14 of these aircraft and the high visibility painting of the lower surface were applied to aircrafts tasked to targets-towing duties.

Besides a large number of standard T-33 trainers used by the AMI, the RT-33As served most of the Squadriglia Collegamenti as well as some specialised units. Originally in silver colours, they were repainted in this high visibility scheme with yellow and black stripes underneath for target interception training and target tug operations. This example was obtained from Turkey in 1957.

Delivered to the Turkish air force in 1955, then to Italy under MDAP in 1957. In target towing livery with markings as it was retired in 1984 by the 609a Squadriglia Collegamenti, 9° Stormo "Francesco Baracca".
