Close up of the tail markings. After returning from Ghana in 65/66 it was used by BUA, Transglobe, British Eagle and Monarch. Broken up at Biggin Hill August 1973. Behind are Auster Antartic WE600 and HastingsTG587.

With the "Bristol and Wessex Aeroplane Club" at this time. Greek letter "Gamma" on rudder. The Argos to it's left is G-AJOZ. Those were the days when it was possible to lean on the car park fence before any expansion took place!

Another of my old "Brownie 127" photos. Carries "Royal Air Force Transport Command" titles plus an 'FCS'(Ferry Communication Squadron?) diamond(blue/yellow) on fin plus the Wallingford Coat of Arms behind cockpit. To 7858M and to the Colerne Museum. On the folding of the museum it went to the SAS training area at Ewyas Harold, Hereford.

One of my early photo's taken with a "Brownie 127" camera. Bit of a dull day so that didn't help! The a/c had just completed compass swings on the southern aerodrome boundary and was being towed back to 49 MU. Written Off 8th December 1965, when it crashed into the Moray Firth

ex N4338X. W/O on 3rd May 2008. Over ran R/W on wet grass. Wings torn off by large hedge after exiting airfield boundary.

Plaque reads: "Sioux AH.Mk1 XT150. Last saw active service with 3CDO BDE Air Squadron in Malaya 1965. Positioned July 1989" W/O 6th February 1968. To 7883M. Removed August 2008. Now with the Yorkshire Helicopter Preservation Group at Doncaster and stored offsite. Composite airframe.

No details known. Early time in my "spotting" days so I didn't make a note of the date. Was definately a "Battle of Britain" open day. Taken with a "Brownie 127" camera. Canberra WJ727 next to it.

Preserved within the base. ex8787M. ex 84 Sqd/A flt('Scorpion' on cabin sides & 'Ace of Spades' motif on fin) Large plaque on a stone in front of the a/c carries quite a bit of information. Some of it reads - This aircraft was the first Whirlwind in Cyprus and arrived 17th June 1969 to carry out hot weather trials. After completion of the trials and a detached service with 1563 Flight at Nicosia another 7 Whirlwinds joined the aircraft to reform as 84 Sqd on 17th January1972. The Sqd was re-equipped with the Wessex HAR.2 in December 1981. XD184's last flight was on1st March 1982

ex9870M. Fin painted red at last refurb' Small copper plague on stone commemorates the unveiling by Chief of Defence Staff, Sir David Craig on 12th May1989. The larger stainless steel plague details the history of the airframe. It was deliverd to Akrotiri on19th May 1988.

84 Sqd Scorpion on nose intake. UN blue band around rear fuselage and "Joker" on fin. ex 9327M. Was originally exhibited near to the ATC squdron but now resides opposite the 84 Sqd hangar/offices within the base. There is a memorial plaque on a large stone in front of the a/c which reads - "Wessex Memorial - In Memory of all those who have served on No. 84 Squadron"
