Former US Army helicopter that had been transferred to South Korea by 1977 as there is a fantastic picture of this helicopter from that year on Air History. At least since 2002 it has been preserved at the KAI museum, in exact the same colours it had in 1977.

This former USAF Provider had originally been built as a C-123B but was later converted to C-123J. It was placed in storage at MASDC in 1976 and delivered to the RoKAF the following year. Since 1995 it is on display in the Seoul war museum. Seen here after sunset and after a fresh paint job.

Beaver 58600 is a mystery. Given how South Korea's Beavers were serialled one would think this is 55-8600, but that serial does not exist, nor is there any option in the fy58 range. One report suggests this is in fact 82073 (58-2073, c/n 1406), but that was noted in 2006, 2011 and 2018 on display at the nearby Daejeon army camp. This 58600 has been on display here since at least 2006, noted in 2007, 2011, 2014 and 2018.

The identity of this F-86F is unclear. Given its current serial, the obvious candidate is 55-3833 (c/n 227-18). This F-86F was delivered to Japan as JASDF 62-7439. Many former JASDF aircraft went to South Korea. However, according to Joe Baugher's website this aircraft went to Tunisia under MAP in 1969. The Scramble database mentions this aircraft under Tunisia with only the 1969 delivery date as the first and last noted date but lists its JASDF serial as FMS serial. I suspect that there is a real chance that 55-3833 in fact went to RoKAF and is on display now in the Grand Park.

This is T-33A 53-5630 that was delivered to the RoKAF as early as August 1955. It now sits in the Grand park of Ulsan in an unusual al grey colourscheme; it was first noted here in 2017.

This Huey has FMS serial 78-23031 and was produced for the South Korean Army. Since 2019, it has been preserved at the premises of the Changshin University.

This O-1C has BuNo 151776 and was delivered to the USN on 31 October 1963. The USN, however, never used this Bird Dog as it was immediately struck of charge the next day to be handed over to South Korea. This took place later in November 1963. For that reason it also received a USAF serial (63-12741), which was never carried on the aircraft. The South Korean Navy operated the aircraft under serial 51776. Since 2015, it is preserved at the gate of Pohang NAS as part of the 6th Air Wing collection.

Delivered to the RoKAF as 31697 and since 2010 preserved at the national cemetery with a slightly different serial presentation.

This Huey with FMS serial 78-23024 was built for the South Korean Army. By February 2021, it had been wfu and preserved at the national cemetery.

This is one of a batch of eleven T-37C for the RoKAF (72-1359/1369). Three of these are now preserved, 361 at the KAI museum in Sacheon, 368 at the Sacheon golf course, and 366 at the war museum in Seoul. The latter, which is in this museum since 2006, is seen in this photo taken just after sunset.

This is former USAF Trojan 51-7858 that was based in Japan, at Kisarazu AB in the early 1960. It was wfu on 31 January 1961 and a little later sent to South Korea to be taken up in the RoKAF as 17858. It has been preserved here since 1998 but was recently resprayed in a light blue colourscheme with a somewhat unusual serial representation.

This is one of a batch of 11 T-37Cs for the RoKAF (72-1359/1369). Since 2005, it is preserved here at the KAI museum.

This is former USAF F-5B 72-0442 which was delivered to the RoKAF after it was struck of charge with the USAF. Since at least 2008 it is preserved here at the national cemetary.

This is former USAF Trojan 51-7830 that in 1953 was active with the 3505 PTW at Greenville AFB, MS. Around 1960 is was operating from Kisarazu AB in Japan, where it was struck of charge on 16 February 1961. In that same month, it was transferred to the RoKAF. It has been preserved in Seoul at least since 1997. This photo was taken sunset.

This is former US Army UH-1H 68-16182, which was handed over to the South Korean Army in an unknown year. In 2018, it was first preserved at Chuncheon Air Base, but by 2021 it had been transferred to the Seoul war Memorial.

The history of this Tracker remains a mystery. It is supposed to be former USN 136595 which was delivered to the JMSDF as 4108 in 1957 and was last noted there in 1976. In 1978, it appeared in the US civil register as N207AK (to be used as fire bomber by the State of Alaska), but apparently it was never taken up as such. In 1995, it emerged in the Seoul war memorial, initially with serial 6707, which is former USN Tracker 136707 (c/n 616). Some reports indicate that the latter aircraft indeed was delivered to the RoKAF in 1972 and later went to the navy. So 6595 might be fake.

This aircraft was developed in 1953, right after the Korean war by the RoKAF Technical School and is generally seen as the start of South Korea's domestic aerospace industry. In 1960, it was transferred to a civil flight school in Daegu. In 2004, the fuselage of the aircraft was salvaged from the Kyeongsang Technical High School in Daegu and a restoration project started. Two new aircraft were built in 2011, both of which are now preserved as well. It is thought that this aircraft at the KAI museum is the restored aircraft with the original fuselage. The name 復活 on the nose means Resurrection.

Not much is known about this U-17A that was active with the South Korean Navy from 1967 until 1984 and used in for reconnaissance, liaison, and light transport duties.

Not much is known about this MiG-15UTI in North Vietnamese markings. It is preserved here at least since 1997. For a long time, the aircraft was parked on the ground and had its serial 128 painted in black. When I saw it, it had been hung from the ceiling with red serial.

Like many South Korean Dragonflies, this aircraft first operated with the USAF (as 69-6341), then went to the South Vietnamese AF, and then to South Korea. It has been preserved in the Grand Park of Ulsan since at least 2011 in Black Eagles colours. It was raining a little when I took this photo...
