This former Israeli Air Force Kfir C2 (serial 928) was sold to the civil market late 2005. The aircraft was incorperated in the civil fleet of ATAC, a commercial company that provides adversary training for the US Forces.

On 6 March 2012, this IAI Kfir C2, former Israeli Air Force serial 820, flew under contract of the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), but crashed while attempting an emergency landing at NAS Fallon (NV). The pilot reported emergency fuel status prior to the accident. Unfortunately, he was killed on the scene and his airplane was completely destroyed by impact forces and postcrash fire.

VMFT-401 operated Kfirs for dissimilar air combat training from 1986 to 1989. This a/c is also quoted as being #999703.

Very nice to see an active Kfir in the static display at the Aviation Nation Air Show.

The Kfir was an Israeli development of the Mirage 5, featuring canards and the American J79 engine. In the 1980s some early Kfirs were leased by the US Navy as F-21 aggressor aircraft. Today, ATAC from Newport News flies a couple of Kfirs in a similar capacity.
