Seen from the Puerto de Pollensa beach over the mountains on its return to Mallorca, where it had served with the Spanish Air Force as a Do 24T-3 SAR aircraft from 1944 until 1969. This flying boat was delivered 16 Nov 1944 serialled 65-12, then HR.5-12, then HR.5-4 and finally HD.5-4. It was withdrawn from use in November 1969 and delivered to Dornier in early August 1971. They preserved it until it was converted to Do 24TT (later known as the Do 24ATT) in April 1983.

The last Do 24K, or 'X-boat', in Dutch service, X-24 was based in Australia in 1942-43 and used by the Netherlands secret service for flights into Dutch colonial outposts not occupied by the Japanese. Note that this is not the real X-24, it is in fact one of the German Do 24Ts given to Spain in 1944, having different engines and guns. It last operated with them as HD.5-1. It is also widely quoted as c/n 5294, but that is its fuselage number. Its actual Dornier Werknummer is 3387.

This aircraft is widely quoted as c/n 5344, but that is its fuselage number. It is in fact Dornier Werknummer 3385 which was delivered to Spain in 1944, last serving with them in 1966 as HD.5-3. Bought in August 1976 by Dolph Overton and registered to him as N99222 in Feb 1977. The aircraft was never delivered, but remained stored in Spain. Donated to Dornier in 1982, who then displayed it in their museum at Oberpfaffenhofen as of 1983, fitted with wings and engines from HD.5-4 c/n 3404. The flying boat was transferred to the Deutsches Museum at Oberschleissheim in Sep 2003.

After many years slowly deteriorating outside, this important exhibit is seen here undergoing restoration. In 1944 twelve Dutch-built Do 24s were delivered to Spain on the understanding they would be used to aid downed airmen of both sides. They operated till 1969; among the survivors, one example now flies as the turboprop-powered Do 24 ATT conversion. The aircraft in this photo is often quoted as cn 5341, but that is only its fuselage number. In fact it is Dornier Werknummer 3406.
