The Royal Typewriter Company of Hartford, Connecticut, bought this early Tri-Motor to deliver its typewriters to distributors. The intention allegedly was to drop them by parachute! Wikipedia even claims that 11,000 typewriters were airdropped but we don't believe it. The aircraft was sold to Stout Air Services within a few months. William Stout is the unmistakable fellow on the right. The others are Edsel Ford on the left and, a bit off topic, Richard Byrd. Photo from: The Henry Ford

Only a few years after the MD.415 Communauté, Dassault designed another unsuccesful light transport and trainer at the request of the French air force, designated MD.320 Hirondelle (swallow), which first flew on 11 September 1968. It was slightly smaller than the similar Jetstream. By May 1969 the Astazou engines of the sole prototype were mounted higher on the wing. By then the Armée de l'Air had already lost its interest. Plenty of interest - from the general public - for the prototype of the stylish but ill-fated F.25 air taxi. It had first flown one month earlier. Sales were handled by Frits Diepen's organisation. Top left is a SUC-10 Courlis, a similar aircraft. Below that is a model of the Fokker F.26 Phantom jetliner design. On the panel behind the F.25 there are photos of Fokker's late 1930s combat aircraft. The panel on the right introduces the S.11 trainer, which first flew in December 1947. This plane was delivered to Air France in October 1937 but the MB.220's first commercial service, from Le Bourget to Croydon, was in March 1938. The MB.220 fleet was militarized following the outbreak of WWII. F-AOHD was later used by Free French forces in North Africa, before resuming with Air France and receiving Cyclone engines to become an MB.221. Photo from: Dassault

One of the many foreign helicopters to come to the rescue following the 1953 flood disaster in the southwestern Netherlands. Seen at military barracks in Roosendaal, F-BGOS was used by Electricité de France (EDF) from October 1952. It is still current 70 years later in 2023!
