The story of this Stratofreighters differs slightly from the others that Balair source for the Biafran airlift. As can be seen from the faded Joint Church Aid titles under the ICRC titles, she originally served with the churches' airlift before being made available for the ICRC. It is unclear whether she flew for them as she only carried those titles as short period during the winter of 1970. Photographer unknown

One of four Stratofreighters chartered by the ICRC from Balair to operate the Biafran airlift bringing food and other relief supplies to Biafra during the Biafran War. HB-ILZ was built for the USAF where she served as 52-0857 until February 1969. Balair took her on charge specifically for the Biafran airlift 22 Februay 1969. She is seen here in Basle after the end of her engagement in Biafra. She came off contract 22 February 1970 and was flown to Davis-Monthan in March of that year.

Chaetered by International Committee of the Red Cross. Later converted in VIP configuration for the Ukrainian Minister of the Interior as 01 Blue.

As specified by the Geneva Conventions, aircraft of the ICRC are marked with the Red Cross insignia on a white background. This marking is displayed on the rear fuselage sides and often also on the fuselage belly, wing centre section or outer wing. In addition, the aircraft are normally painted white overall, although this is not compulsory under the conventions. The operator titles ICRC are displayed on the forward fuselage, often with the circular COMITE INTERNATIONAL GENEVE marking. Alternatively, the latter is displayed on the tail fin.

Used for humanitarian relief work by International Comitee of Red Cross.

This South-African Puma was involved in the humanitarian relieve mission during a 7.6 magnitude earthquake in Kashmir in October 2005. Unfortunately, month's later, the Puma crashed in mountainous terrain near Chinari, Kashmir during landing while participating in a relief flight for the Red Cross on 9 March 2006. Both crew escaped the incident injured, but stayed alive. The SA330J was damaged beyond repair.

Where there is war... the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is present. They fly a massive mixed fleet of leased aircraft, often South African registered. This Beech 1900 is one of them, clearly marked with a red cross, so no opposing forces with bad intentions could mix up this aircraft with a military aircraft. In that way, one hopes that the ICRC aircraft will not be shot by surface-to-air fires.

This Turbo Dakota flew over the city of Goma in Eastern Congo, the aircraft belongs to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and is used for airdropping, medical supplies, passenger and medical team transports as well as reuniting people over long distances with their families.

Acquired by Missionary Flights International in 2015, and flown from South Africa to the USA in May 2017. Restoration continues with efforts concentrating on fuselage sheet metal repair. The "IORO" titles are in fact ICRC titles, which were modified to a meaningless IORO in early 2005. This was done to aid the aircraft (then 5Y-RDS) to escape from Kenya. Aircraft still has the ICRC titles that were changed to a meaningless "IORO" in early 2005. This was done to aid the aircraft (then 5Y-RDS) to escape from Kenya. It was acquired by Missionary Flights International in 2015 following 10 years of storage at Lanseria, South Africa, and ferried to MFI headquarters in May 2017. Currently undergoing a complete restoration to bring it in line with MFI's other two DC-3-65TP aircraft.
