First flown on 18 July 1936, this was the sole Ju 52 owned by DDL before WWII. The forward fuselage was painted red. After the outbreak of the war, 'Denmark' was painted on the roof, with Danish flags on wings and tail surfaces. DDL was allowed to carry on flying under the German occupation of Denmark. Selandia crashed near Vienna - Aspern on 18 December 1942.

The Danish airline DDL hired four German Fokker-Grulich F.IIIs in its early days. D-353 was pictured by a KLM photographer over the Amstel river, just south of Amsterdam. The same aircraft made an emergency landing very close to here at Abcoude on 15 August 1924, then in Deutscher Aero Lloyd service. Photo from: Noord-Hollands Archief

Don't shoot please, we are small neutrals! In addition to the large country titles, some neutral airliners received an all-orange paint job after the outbreak of WWII, including OY-DAM which was seized by the British at Shoreham on 9 April 1940, the day the Germans occupied Denmark. It became G-AGAY and DX117, crashing on 12 July 1941. OO-AGZ is a Savoia-Marchetti S.73 of Sabena. DC-3 PH-ALU Uil of KLM was damaged beyond repair here by German bombs on 10 May 1940.
