The 525th TFS started to operate the F-4E in November 1969, with newly delivered F-4Es, such as this one, seen here in 1970. Early F-4E pictures show the aircraft with a shorter Vulcan cannon pod under the nose. This aircraft was later converted to QF-4E.

A typical Saturday afternoon at Leuchars in the Eighties or early Nineties would find just about any fighter aircraft from the USAFE on the visiting aircraft ramp. This Bitburg F-15C was from the 525th TFS/36th TFW. If you look closely you can see the Iraqi kill marking just below the cockpit. This particular aircraft scored an aerial victory against an unknown Iraqi helicopter on 11 February 1991, piloted by Captain "Gunga" Dingee and was still marked as his official mount when this shot was taken. This F-15C was sold to Saudi Arabia in October 1990. It started it Middle East life as 4220.

Unfortunately, this Eagle crashed on 5 May 1994

Back from an air superiority mission over north of Iraq at the end of Desert Storm operation. She's fiited with live weapons and was assigned at this time to 36 TFW / 525 TFS; Was written off 5/5/94 during a crash near Tyndall Air Base when pilot suffered g-induced loss of consciousness. Pilot ejected but suffered serious injuries.
