In late '75, Marine Strike Fighter squadron (VMFA) 112 Cowboys switched from F-8D/E Crusader to the F-4 Phantom II. On 18 Jan'92, the squadron retired the last F-4S squadron in active service. The squadron transitioned to F/A-18A Hornet by Oct'92. VMFA-112 moved from NAS Dallas (TX) to nearby NAS Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base (JRB) in Sep'96. This 155741 was built as F-4J, converted to F-4S in the early '80s, and moved in Jul'91 to Cherry Point (NC) for storage and by '08 it was converted to QF-4S. Served VX-30 from Point Mugu for a while and was last seen as stored at NAS Fallon in '06.
