A remarkable light aircraft, not just because of the flying wing concept. The entry area features an attach point for the small rope ladder that is used to get onto the anti-slip pads over the wing leading edge. The handle on the centrally mounted control stick operates the main wheel brake. These are just a few of the rather unique features of this light aeroplane with a range of up to 1800 km.

Built in 2002, imported in 2020 and based at Texada Island/BC after a recent ownership change. At this early stage of production they were still pretty much indistinguishable from the Piper original. The carbon fiber and remodeling came later.

I previously photographed this 1964 built Skyhawk in 2015 when it was still in factory paint (Photo ID: 208711). Here it has been re-sprayed but retains the old style registration format, which it is entitled to do being over 25 years old.

This 1957 built Cessna 182A (named Skylane for 34754 and on) has been a fixture at Qualicum Beach (CAT4) for many years. It looked abandoned, but here it is to prove otherwise.

A remarkable light aircraft, not just because of the flying wing concept. It has a payload higher than its empty weight and behind the cockpit extends a large cabin. The two dark spots on the wing tip are access ports to fasten the bolts for the folding the wings, that enable transport by trailer. I believe this visit was a weather diversion, on the way home to Leopoldsburg ('Sanicole') from the island of Föhr.

The sixth prototype of the Z-37 and was delivered in July, 1965 ( to what?) later being registered OK-UJE with flight testing carried out in the USSR. In August 1967 it was transferred to the Aviation Research Institute (VZLÚ) in Prague but sometime in 1968 was damaged by a hurricane but rebuilt using parts (wings, center plane, engine) from Z-37 cn 007, OK-UJC. It made its last flight in June, 1974, completing just over 477 hours and 2514 take-offs. It was transferred to VHÚ (Kbely museum parent organisation) in January 1975 and has been on loan to this fire-fighting museum since April 2011.
