After lying engineless at Southend for a couple of years with light blue "A" tail marks for Alpine Air, this former Pan Am 707 went instead to Al-Waha/Sky Power, then Thai Flying Service, followed by Johnsons Air and Tobruk Air. Hit landing lights during landing at Mombasa on 13.10.09 while flying for Safari A/l as J5-GGU, right main u/c collapsed, uncertified new gear brought in but still parked late 2009 in bad condition

2008 should have brought a visit by Heathrow by this magnificent machine to close her British Eagle season, marking the last service into LHR by that airline exactly 40 years earlier. However, thanks to a deplorable decision at a late stage by the BAA to refuse permission, it didn't happen. Here's a tiny consolation from her working career, on a mail run from Heathrow due to a BA crew strike

Beautifully restored by the Herald Society and Museum of Berkshire Aviation, but very difficult to photograph due to the close fence - this shot, taken just before completion of red painting on top of wings, needed a tall ladder and a battle with some dense undergrowth full of brambles
