It was the first Westland-Sikorsky S-51 and registered in 1948 as G-AKTW. In 1953 it became the first Westland Dragonfly 1A for the RAF as XD649. After evaluation it was restored to civil and became the type/version as above. In 1958 the registration was changed to G-APPR with Bristow Helicopters and here on lease or for demo purposes with BUA. In 1962 it was exported as 5N-ABV and reportedly destroyed during the Biafra War.

Others sources claim this was the prototype which made its first flight on 8 June 1959, however the c/n and registration seem wrong for that. Perhaps it had been re-identified since then?

Imported new in 1961 for the College of Air Training at Southampton (EGHI), who operated it until 1970. Note how the third side window gives it a more modern look than previous models. In 2008 it was re-registered as N100MC, but still UK based. Cancelled by the FAA in 2013.

Built in 1958 as N8717D and imported into the UK by Shackleton Aviation in 1960. On 21 January 1978, under different ownership, it was wrecked when it crash-landed and struck a stone wall at Horwich, Lancashire. [The person taking a close look at the other side may be looking for traces of the previous registration. We used to do that as schoolboy spotters until deciding it was unethical to log them as sightings.]
