Production of the Bombay transport took place at the new Short & Harland factory in Belfast - Sydenham. The first series aircraft, L5808 flew in March 1939 and this photo of the fourth is stamped 21 November 1939. The plant was owned 50% each by Short Brothers and Harland & Wolff, whose shipyard is seen against the backdrop of the Black Mountain. SHORTS official photo CN74576-38. Original caption reads: "SD3.30 Shorts new commuter airliner, the SD3.30 pictured during ist 2-hour maiden flight on August 22 (1974)". Used for flight test and demonstration purposes only, the registration was finally cancelled 1988 with the airframe ending up in a nearby scrapyard.
