40th anniversary of the JASDF

This is the Tsuiki Air Base Air Show held on Sunday, November 8, 1992. Tsuiki Air Base opened in 1942, and on this day F15J, F1 fighter planes, and T33As were painted to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the base's opening. This is the Tsuiki Air Base Air Show held on Sunday, November 8, 1992. Tsuiki Air Base opened in 1942, and on this day F15J, F1 fighter planes, and T33As were painted to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the base's opening.

This aircraft was photographed at JASDF Tsuiki Air Base on June 9, 2020. This aircraft is an F-4 Phantom II, which JASDF first introduced to Japan in July 1971. It was manufactured entirely at McDonnell's St. Louis plant. JASDF regularly installs dust collection pods on T4 liaison aircraft to sample radioactive materials and other substances over Japan. Around 2020, this T4 liaison aircraft was grounded due to an aircraft malfunction. As a result, an F4EJ from Gifu Air Base, which can be equipped with a dust collection pod, flew to Tsuiki Air Base to carry out this mission.

In the fall of 1986, JASDF encouraged each fighter unit to test low-vis paint on their aircraft. Three F4EJs from 304th SQ at Tsuiki Air Base were given this low-vis paint job, including this one. The nationality markings, unit markings, and serial numbers of each aircraft were made smaller, and then oversprayed. Incidentally, the 342nd aircraft still had the camouflage paint job it had when it participated in the 1984 JASDF Combat Skills Competition.
