A famous wartime incident when two Ansons of 2 SFTS became locked together while on a navigation exercise. The crew of the bottom aircraft, L9162, bailed out as did the navigator in N4876. However its pilot, Fuller, found he could control both aircraft with ailerons and flaps. But not the engines of L9162, which remarkably continued to run. Fuller flew on for a further 8km before belly landing in a paddock. N4876 was repaired and remained in service until 1947, Fuller was killed in road accident in 1944.
