This is the second version of the (G.49-2), equipped with a Pratt & Whitney R-1340S3H1 radial engine, instead of the british Alvis Leonides 502/4 Mk.24 used for the first prototype (G.49-1). It first flew in September 1952, registered I-FIAT and then transferred to the Italian Air Force with the military marking 556.
