The largest and smokiest scheduled aircraft in Victoria at the time used to attract the crowds for take-off the way the A380 does at larger venues. Being a freighter and lightly loaded for the short flight to Vancouver, some pilots would be a little exhibitionist.

Short final for runway 18. On days with good light and traffic landing to the south, DCA was, and still is, a great place photograph in the afternoon, especially late with the low light angle.
