Delta Airlines operated the second largest Convair 880 fleet and flew the types first commercial service on May 15, 1960. Former N8809E was withdrawn in 1973 with the rest of Delta's 880s due to the rising price of fuel. Elvis Presley bought the airliner and converted it into his personal transport in 1975. After the singer's death in 1977, it had several owners before stored at Ft Lauderdale, FL. The aircraft was flown to Memphis, TN in 1984 for display at Elvis Presley's home Graceland, TN.
