The captured German cruiser Prinz Eugen sailed to the USA in 1946 with two Ar 196s on board. The ship's catapult was installed at Mustin Field and some test launches were carried out with spurious markings painted on this aircraft. These were simply copied from an old German publicity photo of Ar 196A-4 GA-DX, c/n 0124. It was really an Ar 196A-5 built by Fokker. This airframe is currently in National Air and Space Museum custody for possible restoration. The other Ar 196 from Prinz Eugen is now back in Germany, at Nordholz.
