This was the first of 40 Fireflies to be modded to U.9 drone standard by Fairey Aviation at Stockport and Ringway and was retained for tests. Later to 728B Squadron at Hal Far and shot down off Malta on 25 May 1960.

This was the prototype Firefly conversion to U.9 drone standard. First flew at Ringway on 6 April 1956. To 728B Squadron at Hal Far, Malta. Shot down 25 May 1960.

One of 40 Firefly U9 drone conversions carried out at Fairey Aviation's Stockport and Ringway facilities. It is seen on a piloted test flight before delivery to 728B Squadron Fleet Air Arm at Hal Far, Malta, where it was lost on 25 August 1960. Yellow uppers and red undersurfaces.
