On display at Science Museum London. Capt. John Alcock, DSC and Lt. Arthur W. Brown were the first to fly non-stop across the Atlantic in this aircraft from Newfoundland to Ireland on June 14-15, 1919. Powered by a pair of 360-hp Rolls-Royce Eagle VIII engines, the modified Vimy had extra fuel tanks to complete the crossing in 16h 28m through dense fog, freezing temperatures and a snowstorm. They carried the first transatlantic airmail. The aviators were knighted after the historic flight and won the £10,000 prize by the Daily Mail. The Vimy went on display at the museum on 15 Dec 1919.
