The second DC-3 airframe was presented by AA at Newark on 26 June 1936. According to writer Geoff Jones, it was framed with D-LZ129 at Lakehurst 'a few weeks later'. AA ran connecting flights to its Newark hub for Zeppelin passengers. The notorious Hindenburg disaster occured here on 6 May 1937. Photo from: San Diego Air & Space Museum

The first L-188 for American Airlines, presumably photographed before delivery on 27 November 1958. Below the rear door is Sacred Cove near Los Angeles. AA flew their inaugural service with the new type on 23 January 1959. Flagship New York already crashed on 3 February 1959 near NY - La Guardia and 65 people lost their lives.
