Used for an attempt to beat the Sydney to London record held by Comet G-ACSS since 1934. This Mustang (ex A68-5 and VH-BVM) was registered to Ronald Flockhart at the time, United Dominions Trust was a UK finance house that sponsored the attempt. Aircraft left Sydney on 28 Feb 1961, but record attempt and aircraft were abandoned after a mishap on 4 Mar 1961 at Athens. Aircraft became derelict, but major parts were later recovered to the UK and used for a restoration project. Restored to UK register as G-ARKD on 6 Jun 2012. Project moved to France and then to the US in 2024 as N5470V. Brian Foley photo
