Used for an attempt to beat the Sydney to London record held by Comet G-ACSS since 1934. This Mustang (ex A68-5 and VH-BVM) was registered to racing car driver Ron Flockhart at the time.United Dominions Trust was a UK finance house that sponsored the attempt. Aircraft left Sydney on 28 Feb 1961, but record attempt and aircraft were abandoned after a mishap on 4 Mar 1961 at Athens. Aircraft became derelict, but major parts were later recovered to the UK and used for a restoration project. Restored to UK register as G-ARKD on 6 Jun 2012. Project moved to France and then to the US in 2024 as N5470V. Brian Foley photo This photo was added on 26 December 2025, and has since been viewed 80 times. |
