Wenela Air Services started life as Africair and was set up to transport migrant mine workers to the gold mines of the (then) Transvaal in South Africa. WNLA (pronounced Wenela) was the Witwatersrand Native Labour Association. The airline operated from 1952 to the mid 1970s. First delivered to the USAAF as C-47B 44-76925 in May 1945; RAF as Dakota IV KN611 June 1945; Fields as G-ANAS and Africair as ZS-DHY, both July 1953; Wenela as VP-YSM Oct 1960; re-reg'd A2-ZEM Aug 1968; Air Travel of Botswana Oct 1977; Westonaria Skydiving as ZS-KIV Feb 1979; Interocean Airways as C9-ASQ June 1987; Pretoria Air Services as ZS-KIV April 1997; Wimbi Dira Airways as 9Q-CWI Dec 2003.
