Crashed landed after a dogfight with 3 Sqn, Australian Flying Corps, on December 17, 1917, and recovered by its personnel under artillery fire. Repaired at Saint-Omer and flown to the UK where it became G/101. Claimed as a war prize by the Australians and shipped to Australia in mid 1918. Now part of the Australian War Memorial collection. Fabric, with a lozenge pattern camouflage, retained from a restoration in the 1960s was used as a guide for a further restoration completed in 2008. Photo from: State Library of Victoria

This is a very rare, genuine Great War survivor. It was built in 1917 and served with Jasta 29. It was shot down during a dogfight with an RE.8 of 3 Squadron, AFC. The pilot, Lt Clauss was wounded and force-landed just inside the Australian lines between Armentieres and Ploegsteert Wood. Recovered under shellfire by 3 Sqn and eventually shipped to Austalia for the Australian War Memorial collection. Restored as close as possible to original condition during 2007-8.
