A23-1001, the sole CA-4, was lost when it exploded in midair near Kilmore, Victoria, on January 15, 1943. A fuel leak was the suspected cause. Work had already started on a production version, the CA-11 Woomera. 105 were ordered, then trimmed to 20 and finally only the first, A23-1, was completed and flown.
