Former Soviet Army Aviation Mi-24P with manufacturer date 25 March 1986. Was sold to Ukraine Army Aviation 6 December 1991. Transferred as CH-637 to the Sri Lanka Air Force on 12 June 2001, assigned to 9 Attack Helicopter Squadron at Hingurakgoda. It made its last flight as such on 12 October 2007 with 1,466 flight hours in the logbooks and stored at its homebase. Although not operational anymore, reserialled to SAH-4413 by 2011. And it again received a new serial, SAH-637 by 2012. In the meantime moved to the Aircraft Engineering Wing at Katunayake, seen here in a less condition.

Modified to Mi-24V and transferred as CH-630 to the Sri Lanka Air Force on 6 August 2000, assigned to 9 Attack Helicopter Squadron at Hingurakgoda. Reserialled to SAH-4409 by February 2011. It made its last flight 26 April 2006 with just over 1,000 flight hours in the logbooks. Although not operational anymore, it received a new serial, SAH-630. It is seen here in a bad condition, stored with the Aircraft Engineering Wing.

Most probably this is a former Sovvier Army Aviation Mi-24R. It carries a manufacturer date of 6 November 1986. It was moved to the Ukrain Army Aviation on 6 December 1991. Then sold to the Sri Lanka Air Force as CH-629 and assigned to 9 9 Attack Helicopter Squadron at Hingurakgoda. It was reserialled to SAH-4408 and it made its last flight as such on 30 MAy 2006. Although not operational anymore, it received a new serial, SAH-629, by March 2012. The gunship is seen here in quite a good condition, stored with the Aircraft Engineering Wing, with seemingly a new tail rotor.

This Mi-24P was new built and was rolled out on 24 Apr'85. It was delivered to the V-VS and then to Ukraine. To Sri Lanka as SAH-4416 on 9 Oct'01 and assigned to No.09 Attack Helicopter Squadron "Instantly, Surprise". The HIND was reserialled to SAH-636 by Mar'12. The Mi-24P made its last flight on 17 Nov'09, made a last ground run on 14 Jul'14 and was withdrawn from use with only 2002:43 logged flight hours. Possibly it will be made airworthy again in the future. But the attack role of the type is not necessary anymore in the current SLAF doctrine. Pictured during a superb 4Aviation tour.

As one of six to Sri Lanka as SAH-4411 on 16 Jan'01 and assigned to No.09 Attack Helicopter Squadron "Instantly, Surprise". The HIND was reserialled to SAH-633 by Mar'12. The Mi-24P made its last flight on 17 Nov'09, made a last ground run on 21 Mar'13 and was withdrawn from use with only 1692:54 logged flight hours. This Mi-35P was new built (line number 04-09) and was rolled out on 29 Jun'98. It was delivered as SAH-4404 to Sri Lanka on 17 Jul'98 and assigned to No.09 Attack Helicopter Squadron "Instantly, Surprise". The HIND was reserialled to SAH-623 by Mar'12. The attack helicopter made its last flight on 23 May 2014, made a last ground run on 28 May'14 and was withdrawn from use with only 1481:14 logged flight hours. This new built Mi-35V was rolled out on 24 Jun'98. It was delivered as SAH-4402 to Sri Lanka on 16 Jul'98 and assigned to No.09 Attack Helicopter Squadron "Instantly, Surprise". The HIND was reserialled to SAH-621 by Mar'12. The attack helicopter made its last flight on 30 Jan'14, made a last ground run on 5 Feb'14 and was withdrawn from use with only 1190:15 logged flight hours. Possibly it will be made airworthy again in the future. But the attack role of the type is not necessary anymore in the current SLAF doctrine. When the Islamist terrorist groups seized Gao and its airport, this Mi-24 (one of six having entered service in the Mali AF) was grounded under the sole hangar of the local air base. It was even further damaged by French fire when the latter took control of the airport, in late 2013. Some graffiti painted by the terrorists has been hastily painted over. Needless to say it was a complete loss for the Mali Air Force, and it was eventually removed (and probably scrapped) to make room in the hangar before it would be refurbished.

This helicopter flew for 1849 hrs before being grounded and put into storage. Believed to have gone to the Hungarian A/F. Behind 9624 is 9627, also believed to have gone to the Hungarian AF. To the left is 9634(ex NVA '529' c/n 340271) which did end up with the Polish A/F as '271' Last noted in service in 49th Aviation Base 2017. Current status not know. After the split, it went to the air force of the Slovak republic and is now preserved at Piešťany.

After the split, it went on to serve with the air force of the Czech republic. Eventually it ended up in Afghanistan were it was last noted in Kabul as 116 in 2019.

This ex NVA aircraft '532' had reached a total of 1331 flight hours.

Another of the stored Hinds. This one was ex NVA'533' and had achieved 1298 Hrs. To Polish Army as '276' in 1996. May 2000 Iraq - Damaged after dynamic manoeuvre to avoid electric wire strike. Transported back to Poland and repair was found unprofitable. Stripped of valuable equipment,

Another of the stored Hinds. 25 were noted still there out of the 32 originally based with KHG-5. This was ex NVA '418' and had a total of 1758 Hrs on the "clock."

Another ex NVA aircraft('496' - 1350 Hrs) stored at Basepohl while we were collecting our a/c 9626 for the Helicopter Museum.

Ex NVA '485' with a total of 1459 Hrs before it became part of the storage scene at Basepohl. To Polish Army as '272' in 1996. Last noted in service at 49th Aviation Base 2017. Current status unknown"
